With Google really tightening the security on who and when can their APIs be used and validated, we have recently added the ability for you to create your own local service/application the Google App Console and use that when using the G4G functions.
Google is basically requiring frequent application "authorization" through third parties. This can cost thousands of dollars a year, each year, for application providers like ourselves. What we have found while digging into this there aren't really any organizations that can offer authorization/validation of applications on the IBM i platform (no surprise, huh?).
What this means is if our application is not validated when doing the registration process for an app, you have to select the "scary" option to "continue anyway" to allow our app to access your data so you can work from your IBM i with Google Drive, GMail, Google Calendar, etc.
While this isn't an issue for some shops and allows the applications to function without issue, others may have strict security in place not allowing this. Because of this we have updated the G4G Suite to allow you to create and use your own local service/application.
Documentation for creating the service with your Google App Console is located here:
G4G GSuite Personal Registration (2025) With Multiple Scopes
We have also included a sample application in this documentation to show how you can override the service from our service to the service(s) you choose to create.
Because you create local services and allow APIs and scopes locally, Google does not require your application to be verified.
Yes, it does take a little work to set up, but we're willing to help with this as a consulting option should you choose. Normally this shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours at our normal rate.
As always, feel free to contact us with any questions.
